Installing Dangly.
Drag it to Applications on a Mac. On Windows, run the installer and get past one security prompt. Neither platform asks for an account or admin rights.
Installing on a Mac
-
Download the disk image
One universal
.dmgthat runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs alike, nothing to pick. -
Open the disk image
Double-click the downloaded
.dmg. A window opens showing Dangly beside a shortcut to your Applications folder. -
Drag Dangly into Applications
Drag the app icon onto the Applications shortcut. Copying takes a couple of seconds.
-
Eject the disk image
Click the eject arrow beside the mounted image in Finder's sidebar, then move the downloaded
.dmgto the Trash. -
Open it the first time
Double-clicking from Applications may show "Dangly can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software." That's Gatekeeper, not a problem with the download. Instead, right-click (or Control-click) Dangly in Applications and choose Open, then confirm Open again in the dialog that appears. You only need to do this once; every launch after that is a normal double-click.
-
Pick a charm
A charm appears hanging from the top of your screen. Click the Dangly icon in the menu bar to switch charms, try a ritual, or open Settings.
Installing on Windows
-
Download the installer
A single
Setup .exefor 64-bit Windows, Intel or AMD, which covers nearly every Windows PC. -
Run it past SmartScreen
Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" panel, because the build isn't code-signed yet. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
-
Let the installer finish
It installs for the current user only and starts Dangly automatically. Nothing to choose, nothing bundled alongside it.
-
Pick a charm
A charm appears hanging from the top of your screen. The tray icon opens Settings, where charms, rituals and preferences live.
When something doesn't look right
Nothing appeared after launching.
Look for the Dangly icon in the menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows). If it's there, Dangly is running, and the charm may just be on another display, or a Rage Room item may have taken over the screen (press Esc, or click the ✕ in its hint, to exit).
macOS says Dangly is from an unidentified developer.
Expected on first launch, see step 5 above. Right-click the app in Applications, choose Open, and confirm once. It won't ask again after that.
macOS says Dangly is damaged and can't be opened.
That almost always means the download was interrupted rather than anything wrong with the build. Delete it, empty the Trash, and download it again.
Will Dangly get in the way of what I'm clicking?
No. The charm is click-through by default on both platforms and never takes keyboard focus. Rage Room items are the one exception: they take over your clicks on purpose, for as long as you leave that mode active.
How do I uninstall it?
On a Mac, quit it from the menu bar and drag it from Applications to the Trash. On Windows, use Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find Dangly, and remove it there.
Does it update itself?
Press Check for Updates in Settings and it'll tell you if a newer version is out, with a Download button straight to it. Nothing installs itself in the background.
